Shopify is ending the old way that apps show things on your store (script tags). To keep your DelightChat chat widget, welcome popup and abandoned cart reminders working, switch on the DelightChat app embeds in your Shopify theme. It takes about 2 minutes per store, and your DelightChat settings stay the same.
What changes and when
Shopify stops running script tags on storefronts on 1 March 2027. Until then, features that already run on script tags keep working. Since 1 October 2026, Shopify no longer accepts new script tags, so DelightChat cannot switch on these features for a store that still uses script tags.
These DelightChat features are affected: the Self Serve Widget (chat widget), the Welcome Popup, and Abandoned Cart reminders on WhatsApp.
Do you need to do this?
You need to act if you connected a Shopify store to DelightChat and the store still runs on script tags. In that case DelightChat shows one of these:
- A red banner at the top of the app: "Action needed: from Mar 01, 2027, your DelightChat chat widget, welcome popup and abandoned cart reminders will stop working on your Shopify store." with the link [Fix it in 2 minutes].
- A pop-up with the title "Your Store Widgets Will Stop Working on Mar 01, 2027" and the button [Fix It Now].
- A notice "Finish a quick Shopify change first" with the button [Fix It Now]. It appears on the Welcome Popup, Abandoned Cart Recovery or Self-Service Widget setup page when you try to switch the feature on.
If you see none of these, you do not need to do anything.
Here's how
- Click [Fix it in 2 minutes] in the banner, or [Fix It Now] in the pop-up or notice. The page "Keep Your DelightChat Widgets Working on Shopify" opens. It shows one card for each store that needs the change.
- On the card, under "Step 1 - Open your Shopify theme editor", click [Open Theme Editor]. It opens in a new tab, on the list of app switches for your live theme.
- Under "Step 2", turn on the switches that the card lists. Find them under App embeds in the theme editor. The three possible switches are [Self Serve Widget], [Welcome Popup] and [Abandoned Cart]. Leave the other DelightChat switches as they are.
- Under "Step 3 - Click Save in Shopify", click Save at the top right of the Shopify theme editor. Nothing changes on your store until you save.
- Come back to DelightChat. Under "Step 4", click [I've Done This]. DelightChat checks that everything is switched on and finishes the rest for you.
- Wait for the card status to change to [Done]. The card then shows "All set. Your chat widget, welcome popup and abandoned cart reminders will keep working." (it names only the features you use).
If you have more than one Shopify store, repeat these steps for each card.
What the card status means
[Action Needed]: you still need to turn on the switches. Follow Steps 1 to 4 above.
[Almost there]: at least one switch is still off. The card lists each switch with a tick or a cross. Turn on the switch that shows a cross in the theme editor, click Save in Shopify, then click [Check Again]. You can click [Open Theme Editor] again from this card.
[Reconnect Needed]: DelightChat needs your permission again. Click [Reconnect Shopify], approve the request in Shopify, and you come straight back to this page.
"We couldn't check this store": Shopify did not respond. Wait a minute and click [Check Again].
"We couldn't finish this store": your switches are on and your widgets still work, but something went wrong on the DelightChat side. Wait a minute and click [Try Again].
[Done]: nothing more to do for this store.
[Not in use]: you marked this store as not in use.
When no store needs the change, the page shows: "All your stores are set. Your DelightChat widgets are running on app embeds."
Frequently asked questions
Will my widget, popup and abandoned cart settings change?
No. DelightChat shows "all your settings stay the same" on this page. You only switch on the app embeds in your Shopify theme.
I cannot switch on the Welcome Popup, Abandoned Cart or Self-Service Widget. Why?
If the store still runs on script tags, DelightChat shows the notice "Finish a quick Shopify change first" and does not save the switch. Click [Fix It Now], complete the steps above for that store, then switch the feature on again. A feature that is already on stays on.
What happens if I do nothing?
From 1 March 2027, Shopify stops running script tags. After that date, the DelightChat chat widget, welcome popup and abandoned cart reminders stop working on a store that has not moved to app embeds.
I no longer use one of the stores on this page. What should I do?
If a store card shows a problem it cannot fix, the card has a [Not using this store] link. DelightChat asks you to confirm, and warns that the DelightChat widgets on that store stop working from 1 March 2027. After you confirm, the card shows [Not in use].
The page asks me to reconnect Shopify. Is that normal?
Yes. DelightChat sometimes needs your permission again before it can fix a store. Click [Reconnect Shopify], approve the request, and you return to this page.
The card still shows a problem after I clicked Save in Shopify.
Click [Check Again]. If the card still does not clear, click [Contact support] on the card.
