API Keys & MCP lets an account admin connect AI apps (such as Claude or ChatGPT) and scripts to DelightChat. They can read your chats, tickets and broadcast results. They can also tag, assign, change the status of tickets and add internal notes. They never send messages to your customers.
Before you start
Only account admins can open this page. Each key or app connection acts as the admin who created it. The page needs a live paid plan. If the page is missing from your Settings menu, access is not turned on for your account yet.
Here's how to connect an AI app (MCP)
Use this for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Claude Code. You do not need an API key. You sign in with your admin account.
- Go to [Settings] > [Integrations & Channels] > [API Keys & MCP].
- Copy the [MCP URL] from the [AI Apps] section.
- In your AI app, add a custom connector (or MCP server) and paste the URL.
- Sign in with your DelightChat admin account and choose what the app may do.
- Test it. Ask the app: "Who am I connected as in DelightChat?"
Here's how to create an API key for a script
Use this for Google Apps Script, Python, n8n or Zapier.
- Go to [Settings] > [Integrations & Channels] > [API Keys & MCP].
- In the [API Keys] section, click [New Key].
- Enter a [Name], for example "Daily unreplied tickets digest".
- Choose what the key may do: [Reports only], [Reports + ticket helper] or [Custom]. The permissions are [Chats], [Broadcasts] and [Ticket changes].
- If the key can change tickets, read the notes on the screen and tick the box to confirm that the data the key reads goes to the script or app that uses it, and to its AI provider.
- Click [Create Key].
- On the [Copy Your Key] screen, copy the key and click [Done]. DelightChat shows the key only once.
- Paste the key into your script's secret settings. Never paste it into a chat or public code.
The page also has an [API docs] link and a [Copy Setup Prompt] button. The prompt helps you ask ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor to guide you.
Renew, revoke or disconnect
Each key and each connected app shows its status, an Expires date and when it was last used. Use [Renew] to extend a key or connection for 1 year. The same key keeps working. Use [Revoke] to stop a key, or [Disconnect] to stop an app. Anything that uses it stops working on its next call. An expired key cannot be renewed. Create a new key, or reconnect the app from Claude or ChatGPT.
Frequently asked questions
Can an AI app or script send messages to my customers?
No. Sending or drafting replies is not supported yet. Webhooks, help articles and AI knowledge, and customer lists and segments are also not supported yet.
I lost my key. What do I do?
Create a new key and revoke the old one. DelightChat cannot show a key again.
Does Disconnect remove the connector inside Claude or ChatGPT?
No. Disconnecting in DelightChat stops the app. Remove the connector inside Claude or ChatGPT too.
What happens if the admin who made a key is no longer an admin?
The key stops working. It shows the status "Stopped: owner is no longer an admin".
Can agents who are not admins use this page?
No. They see a message that only account admins can manage API access.
